The ISA brown hens who call Lone Pine home are rescue chickens, rescued from battery farms with often less-than-desirable conditions. These ISA brown hens have adapted very well to their new home and can often be seen enjoying happy hen behaviour such as dirt bathing and scratching.
You may notice trimmed beaks due to farming practices from their previous homes. This is not a practice carried out at Lone Pine. The Veterinary and keeper teams ensure the best quality of life for all animals at the sanctuary.
