A popular pet around the world, scientists believe that guinea pigs were originally domesticated from a now extinct wild species in South America.
Guinea pigs are social animals who communicate with squeals, chirps, squeaks, and whistles. They are a popular household pet as they are affectionate, social and come in a multitude of colours and patterns. Although not known for their intelligence, they do recognise their owners and will seek them out and return affection.
Guinea Pigs are herbivores, and particularly love lettuce, cabbage, and various types of grasses, fruit and feed pellets.
