Therapeutic vaccination of koalas harbouring endogenous koala retrovirus (KoRV) improves antibody responses and reduces circulating viral load
This project involved the vaccination of ten of Lone Pine’s male koalas for KoRV, which is an endogenous disease commonly found in northern koalas.

This project involved the vaccination of ten of Lone Pine’s male koalas for KoRV, which is an endogenous disease commonly found in northern koalas. Our koalas received vaccines developed by researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The prophylactic vaccination was found to decrease the circulating viral load in the koalas as well as boost their natural antibody response.  This project produced a solid foundation for continuing work on KoRV vaccines.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary also provided all veterinary work including vaccinations, sampling and examinations. For further information, visit https://digital.library.adelaide.edu.au/dspace/handle/2440/127235
