Our story.Your memories.
A school excursion. A family tradition. Your first time meeting a koala.
For generations, Lone Pine has been part of Brisbane's story and part of countless family stories too.
As we approach our 100th anniversary in October 2027, we're collecting your memories and photos. What do you remember?
Founder Claude Reid, a koala, and the bushland at Fig Tree Pocket.
Recognise anything?
In 1927, Lone Pine opened its gates with just two koalas, Jack and Jill. Founder Claude Reid established the sanctuary as a refuge for sick, injured and orphaned koalas at a time when wild populations were declining due to the fur trade.
Nearly 100 years later, generations of guests, staff and volunteers have all become part of its history.
Take a look through the archives. You might spot a familiar place or remember a story of your own.
From the Lone Pine Archive

It doesn't have to be a big moment.
Whether you visited once, grew up coming here or spent years behind the scenes, we'd love to hear what stayed with you.
Your memory doesn't have to be from decades ago. Last year, last month or your most recent visit all count.

Share your memory
Help us build a collection of the people, places and moments that make up Lone Pine's story, from 1927 right through to today.
Tell us what happened, who you were with and what you remember most. A few sentences is plenty, and you can add photos, videos or a scanned keepsake if you have them.
Together, these stories will help tell the story of Lone Pine through the people who have been part of it.
Selected memories may be shared throughout our centenary celebrations, helping bring Lone Pine's first 100 years to life.
